Laura Evers Johns is an award-winning director and scriptwriter working in film, advertising, and theatre.
In 2004, Laura was shortlisted for Soho Theatre's Verity Bargate Award with her play The Waning Moon. In 2005, she became the Assistant Director for Crocodile Seeking Refuge at The Lyric Studio. In 2006, her play Better Forget was performed at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre.
In 2007, Laura graduated with City University's Skillset accredited MA in Creative Writing (Playwriting and Screenwriting). In 2009, she was selected for Film London's New Pathways development programme, which saw her successfully pitched for and secure funding to make her first short, By Hook (2010).
Subsequently, By Hook – a “visually sumptuous work" (The Guardian) – was shortlisted for Film London's Best of Borough Awards 2010. It was also shortlisted for the Virgin Media Shorts 2011, and screened on TiVo and in Picturehouse Cinemas nationwide for one year.
In 2012, Laura became a finalist in The Pitch competition with Magi. While in 2014, she was selected for Sheffield Doc Fest’s Fast Track To Features programme.
In 2015, she was invited to judge for the Recovery Street Film Festival for the second year running, and she returned to the London Kurdish Film Festival judging panel for the second time.
In 2016, Laura picked up two awards for her commercial Under One Roof ('Best Use of Video below £10,000' in the Recruitment Marking Awards and 'Best Video' in the Recruitment Business Awards). She returned to judge for the Recovery Street Film Festival for a third year. Laura also began working on her Sci-Fi coming of age feature Mercy with the NFTS (National Film & Television School).
In 2017, for the fourth year, Laura returned to the panel of the Recovery Street Film Festival's judges. She also founded THE EVERYTHING, a collective of award-winning filmmaking talent, to offer brands and agencies a scaleable, tailored approach for their video requirements.
In 2018, Laura is broadening her portfolio of commercial content, continuing work on her Sci-Fi feature and developing a feature-length documentary on AI.
She is a member of Cinesisters and Directors UK.
